Apply for Journalist Pension Scheme?

Checklist:

  • The Department has been implementing the Scheme since 01.01.2016.
  • Under this Scheme, lifetime pension support is provided to the recipient.
  • The rate of pension is Rs.8000.00 per month.
  • Recipient has to attain 60 (Sixty) years of age and has to retire from the profession of journalist/photo journalist/correspondent/camera person etc.
  • He/She must be a domicile of Assam and must have served as a journalist in Assam for not less than 20 years preceding the date of his/her retirement.
  • Preference will be given to those who were issued Recognition/Accreditation Card by the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Govt. of Assam. However, the person who served as a journalist continuously for 20 years or more will be given preference.
  • He/She must not be in the payroll of any media house. He/She must not also be drawing pension from any other source except under the Employees Provident Fund.
  • The Proprietor, Proprietor-cum-Editor, Manager-cum-Editor and those whose nature of work is not related to that of a working journalist shall not be eligible under the scheme.
  • The Government Servant shall not be eligible for Journalist Pension. No person shall be entitled to receive more than one pension under the categories of Journalist/ Literature/ Sports etc.

Overview:

 The Assam Pension Scheme for Journalists has been announced for the welfare of retired Journalists working not less than 20 years in Assam on 16th January2017. The scheme will benefit those journalists who attained an age of 60 years and undergone superannuation as journalist. Pension shall ordinarily be valid till the lifetime of the recipient.

 As provided in the Application Proforma.

Important Timeline:

 Last date for receipt of application is 10th November, 2026 for the year 2026-27.

How to apply:

Intending candidates shall submit their applications to the office of the undersigned in hard copy, duly filled up in the prescribed format, along with all related papers/documents as specified in the Application Proforma. The Applicant shall submit a self-declaration regarding his/her annual income.
